Collection & payment

How does a collection work?
Message 084 306 6660 on WhatsApp with a photo of your e-waste or catalytic converters and your location. We confirm a price range and a time, one of our own agents comes to you, the material is weighed and tested in front of you, and you are paid on the spot with an invoice. Collections are free anywhere in South Africa.
Is collection really free?
Yes. Collection is completely free and nothing is deducted from your price for transport, handling or agent fees. The amount we quote is the amount you are paid.
How and when do I get paid?
Immediately, once the material has been weighed and tested in front of you. You choose cash or EFT, and you receive an invoice for the sale on the spot.
Is there a minimum quantity?
No. One old laptop or a single converter is welcome, and so is a workshop or warehouse full. For bulk loads we simply confirm the collection time first.
Why are your prices higher than a middleman?
Because you are dealing with the source. PGM Recycling buys direct, for its own account, so there is no broker, agent or runner taking a cut between you and the price of the metal. Whatever a middleman would keep stays with you.
Do I need to bring ID?
Yes. South African law requires us to record the seller of precious-metal-bearing material, so please have your SA ID, driver's licence or passport ready when we collect or when you visit.

Catalytic converters

Which catalytic converters do you buy?
All of them: ceramic, metallic and diesel particulate filters (DPFs), from any make of car, bakkie, truck or bus, petrol or diesel. Damaged, cut-open or partly empty units still hold value and are still bought.
How do you work out the price of a converter?
Each converter is identified by its reference number against our database of more than 35,000 converters and priced on that day's platinum, palladium and rhodium prices. Substrate, bulk lots and any unit the number does not settle are XRF-tested. You see how the price is reached.
Do I need the serial number?
It helps but is not required. The number is stamped on the shell or heat shield; a clear photo of the whole unit on WhatsApp is enough for us to give you an estimate.
Do you buy from workshops, scrapyards and fleets?
Yes. Mechanics, exhaust fitters, scrapyards, dealers, fleet operators and panel shops across South Africa sell to us, and we collect from them on a regular schedule if they prefer.

E-waste

What e-waste do you collect?
Computers, laptops, servers, networking gear, cellphones, circuit boards, RAM, CPUs, hard drives, power supplies, cables, TVs, decoders, routers, printers and office electronics. If it plugs in or holds a charge, ask us.
Do I need to sort it first?
No. We take it as it is. If you do separate boards, cables and RAM it speeds up the assessment, but it is not required.
What happens to the data on old drives and phones?
Storage devices are wiped or physically destroyed as part of processing. If you need written confirmation for your records, tell us when you book the collection.
Do you collect from companies and IT departments?
Yes: office clear-outs, decommissioned servers, retired fleets of laptops and phones. We bring the vehicle, load it, weigh it and pay the company by EFT with a full invoice.

Mini Cats

What is a Mini Cat?
An M18 x 1.5 oxygen sensor spacer with a small catalyst element inside. It threads into the downstream (post-catalyst) sensor port and changes what that sensor reads, which is how it addresses P0420 and P0430 catalyst-efficiency codes. It does not repair a catalytic converter and it does not reduce what comes out of the tailpipe.
How do I order one?
Order online at minicats.co.za and it is delivered anywhere in South Africa. You can also collect from our Johannesburg branch.

Still have a question?

Message us on WhatsApp and one of our agents will answer, and can arrange a free collection while you are at it.
