โ™ป๏ธ Why Recycling Catalytic Converters Is So Important

Catalytic converters are essential components in every vehicle, reducing toxic emissions and helping protect the environment. But did you know these devices also contain valuable metals that can be recovered, reused, and reinvested into our global economy?

At PGM Recycling, weโ€™ve perfected a transparent, tech-driven process to recycle catalytic converters responsiblyโ€”while paying our clients the highest market rates in South Africa.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Whatโ€™s Inside a Catalytic Converter?

Catalytic converters are made with Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), and Rhodium (Rh) โ€” rare, expensive metals also known as PGMs (Platinum Group Metals).

๐Ÿ“ Step-by-Step: From Collection to Global Recycling

1. We Collect Your Converters in Johannesburg or Durban

You bring your catalytic converters to one of our branches. Our team weighs and registers your items while giving you a real-time quote based on current global spot prices.

2. We Crush and Sample the Material

We use high-precision equipment to crush the converters into a fine powder. Then we take a sample and analyze it using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) technology to measure exact metal content.

3. Instant Payout Based on Real Market Data

After analysis, we offer a payout based on the metal composition and the latest online market prices. You get paid on the spotโ€”no waiting.

4. Export to Japan for Smelting

The powder is shipped to Japan, where we have a direct partnership with major manufacturers such as Toyota. These companies recycle the metals into new catalytic converters.

5. Global Refining & Settlement

Once in Japan, the powder is melted at high temperatures in specialized refineries. The precious metals are separated and purified. After about 6 months, we receive our final payment from the refiner.

๐ŸŒฑ A Win for the Planet & Your Wallet

Recycling catalytic converters helps reduce environmental waste, supports a global circular economy, and ensures we reuse precious resources instead of mining more. It also means higher payments for our clients.

๐Ÿ’ผ Why PGM Recycling?

  • โœ… Transparent pricing with live market updates

  • โœ… In-house XRF analysis for accuracy
